Dear Mr Comisionado Salomón Escota Salinas,
Director General de la Policaa Nacional Preventiva

I really am deeply disturbed about the inhumane way of treatment that people displaying sexual and stylistic diversity received at the hand of your subordinate police officers, which became brutally evident in the case of the transvestite Fabio Estrada. Not only did your subordinates fail to come to the aid of the victim of a criminal assault, but they even encouraged the aggressors! It is complete failure of human rights standards and the minimal legal standards when the police under your command side with the criminals instead of their victim, who, to make matters yet more deplorable, is then… accused of a premeditated murder, whereas he only legitimately defended himself against the overwhelming assailants while receiving NO help from nearby policemen bearing firearms! Another act of hatred-motivated mistreatment is visible in the fact that Fabio Estrada, whose only fault was a diverse appearance rejected by some thugs, is kept in a prison for convicts and not in the arrest for suspects awaiting trial. Furthermore, despite being a victim of severe beating, Fabio Estrada has been deprived of medical aid for all the time spent in prison. Even mentioning the horrifying facts about how he and his colleagues have been humiliated for being different from the majority of the society makes me feel too sorry. I am also sorry that my image of Honduras as a civilized country with mostly friendly people and government has proved groundless. I do understand that some individuals in every nation harbour hatred towards anyone different from themselves, but it is a duty of the state to protect any endangered persons from falling victim to aggression stemming from mindless hatred, and a country that fails to do so deserves no sympathy like that received by Honduras e.g. during the latest Football World Championships with its participance.

I do hope that both: some human feelings that you Sir must have developed in your life so far, and the concern that you certainly have for the reputation of your country will make you personally involved in launching an honest investigation into the misdeeds of your own people as well as of the judiciary of your country, and improving the legal standards of handling Fabio Estrada and his co-workers' case so that their status of the crime victims is confirmed and ALL of the victimized detainees are released and compensated for all the harm experienced during the whole incident. I also do hope that the justice will prevail and the actual aggressors will receive their just punishment after a fair trial. Finally, I would like to express the hope that you will prove able to confess to your own mistakes and the magnitude to do so will be far more rewarding to you than the false sense of honour stemming from the power to carry out your will no matter the harm done to the innocent human beings.

I enclose a photo of myself taken during my disobedience action in which I question the principles of masculinity in social life – if you think that as a human being I do not enjoy the right to do so, I would be grateful to learn what punishment, humiliation and torture would you like to subject me to for that if I were found in the streets of your country?

Yours sincerely,
